Hedge Renovation: A pice on scale

Hedge renovations do not instantally look beautiful but they do change a space and bring a room into scale. These before and after pictures show a hedge that had not been pruned to scale in 5 years. It was over 8 feet tall and was initially planted to hide a driveway and parked cars. As it grew it create a wall that was over the size need for the purpose and the garden that it was apart of.

The hedge was take down to 6 feet tall. It still hid the parked cars and kept the secreat garden feel but the trees planted in the space looked larger and there was a hint of a garden just above the hedge. The trees that were meant to be the large focal points had been drowned out but the mass of the hedge. Reducing the hedge allowed for the trees to shine and show their full beauty. Hedge renovations are hard work and take time for the plant to fully regrow but there is beauty in the structure of a garden. Scale can not be overlooked becasue scale is what separtes a garden from a fallow space. It is essential to highlight the plants that have form and movement by keeping hedges in scale.
